Integrating Indigenous Knowledge in Maternal and Child Health: A Focus on Mental Wellness

2024 AZ Maternal & Child Health Workforce and Policy Summit

Presented by the 4th Trimester Arizona Ecosystem

I am honored to announce that I will be speaking at the 2024 AZ Maternal & Child Health Workforce and Policy Summit on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 09:55 AM to 10:50 AM. My session, titled "Mental Health: Models of Care and the MCH Workforce," will focus on the essential role of mental health in our communities, particularly from an Indigenous perspective.

In Indigenous cultures, we understand that health is a holistic concept that encompasses physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental well-being. Our traditional knowledge emphasizes the interconnectedness of these aspects, which is vital when we consider the care models used within the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) workforce.

I will explore how integrating Indigenous practices and wisdom into modern care models can create a more supportive environment for mothers and children. By honoring our ancestors' teachings and recognizing the importance of mental health, we can develop comprehensive strategies that uplift our families and strengthen our communities.

This summit, powered by Whova, is a wonderful opportunity to share insights and connect with others who are passionate about improving maternal and child health outcomes. I am excited to engage in meaningful conversations and collaborate on solutions that honor both our heritage and the future of our families. I hope to see you there!
